Job summary

New Beginnings Family Academy (NBFA) in Bridgeport, CT, seeks a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to join our Student Support Services team. The RBT will provide direct behavioral interventions and support to students with social-emotional, behavioral, developmental, and autism-related needs, under supervision of the Climate and Culture Team.

Work closely with teachers, counselors, and families to implement BIPs, collect behavioral data, and monitor progress.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential in good standing with the BACB.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, special education, applied behavior analysis, social work, or related field; experience considered.
  • Experience supporting students with behavioral, developmental, social-emotional, and/or autism-related needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), collecting and analyzing behavioral data, and using data to monitor progress and inform interventions.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and evidence-based strategies.
  • Knowledge of emotionally responsive, restorative, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented during challenging or crisis situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and small-group behavioral support.
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity.
  • Teach replacement behaviors, coping, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills.
  • Support students during instruction and unstructured times.
  • Promote student independence through fading of supports.
  • Collaborate with staff and families; maintain confidentiality; participate in professional learning.

Summary:

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a key member of NBFA's Student Support Services and Climate Team and is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and emotionally responsive learning environment in which every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Working directly with the Culture and Climate Specialist and under the supervision of thePrincipalor their designee, the RBT collaborates with teachers, school counselors, special educators, related service providers, and families to provide direct behavioral interventions and support to students with social-emotional, behavioral, developmental, and autism-related needs.

Student Behavioral Support
  • Provide individualized andsmall-groupbehavioral support.
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity.
  • Teach replacement behaviors, coping, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills.
  • Support students during instruction and unstructured times.
  • Promote student independence through gradual fading ofsupports.
Emotionally Responsive & Restorative Practices
  • Use emotionally responsive practices to co-regulate students.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations.
  • Model trauma-informed interactions.
  • Support teachers with restorative classroom practices.
Crisis Prevention & Intervention
  • Respond using approved de-escalation strategies.
  • Assistwith crisis response and safety planning.
Data Collection & Progress Monitoring
  • Collect andmaintainbehavioral data.
  • Monitor progress toward behavioral goals.
  • Participate in MTSS and student support meetings.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • Associate's or bachelor'sdegree in education, psychology, special education, applied behavior analysis, social work, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience supporting students with behavioral, developmental, social-emotional, and/or autism-related needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs),collectingand analyzing behavioral data, and using data tomonitorstudent progress and inform interventions.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and evidence-based behavioral intervention and support strategies.
  • Knowledge of, or experience implementing, emotionally responsive, restorative, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented during challenging or crisis situations.
