Job summary

Westcor is seeking a senior underwriting counsel to lead a team responsible for managing residential and commercial title insurance risks and underwriting decisions across Florida. The role requires directing underwriting policy, training staff, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.

The candidate must hold a J.D. degree with at least five years of Florida real property and title insurance experience, and be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience focused on Florida real property and title insurance.
• Member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
• Strong knowledge of Florida real property law and the title insurance industry.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to travel with sales staff throughout the state.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of underwriting counsels
• Provide underwriting guidance to team to ensure consistent risk evaluation and decisioning
• Analyze title insurance risks, underwriting issues, and regulatory concerns
• Provide underwriting solutions to agents, sales team, and title examiners in accordance with Westcor company guidelines as well as local, state and federal law
• Handle residential and commercial transactions underwriting
• Present training seminars to educate title agents and production staff (both online and in person)
• Provide outstanding customer service while making sound underwriting decisions
• Handle a high volume of underwriting inquiries via email and telephone in a timely, responsive, and professional manner
• Analyze and respond to indemnity requests
• Travel with sales staff for agent visits throughout the state
• Work well in a remote team environment
