Job summary

The State of Michigan, through the MDOT Bay Region, seeks Transportation Maintenance Worker candidates for diverse duties including bridge/culvert maintenance, sign fabrication/installation, and roadside upkeep across the Bay Region. Duties also cover winter snow/ice removal and operation of heavy vehicles.

Education typically requires high school completion. A CDL with Group A and N or X endorsement is required at hire, with further training for E8 level approval.

Qualifications

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required at appointment.
• CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions must be obtained within 12 months.
• MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification may be required for E8 level.

Responsibilities

• Perform bridge/culvert maintenance incl. substructure and superstructure repairs.
• Handle region-wide sign shop tasks: fabrication, installation, maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Rural roadside maintenance: spraying pesticide, planting, trimming and rest area upkeep.
• Winter duties may include snow/ice removal; operate GVWR 26,001+ lbs vehicles.
