Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in Grand Junction seeks a Regional Transportation Director to lead Region 3’s multidisciplinary teams and resources. The role guides planning, maintenance, and construction initiatives across a 14-county area, driving safe, sustainable public service and regional growth.

You will report to the Senior Management Team, advance CDOT’s strategic objectives, and collaborate with engineers, planners, and policy makers.

Qualifications

• At least ten years of leadership/senior management experience in transportation.
• Two years of experience managing a large professional staff with budget, goals, strategy and policy responsibilities.
• Experience facilitating cross-agency collaboration and policy development.
• Experience operating in a politically sensitive environment and high-stress settings.
• Education and experience combination totaling at least ten years.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership for the Region's management team to ensure delivery of operations and projects within budget.
• Direct through subordinate managers the activities of 600+ positions across planning, environmental, engineering, maintenance and administration.
• Collaborate on the development and delivery of CDOT's strategic plan and policy.
• Work with CDOT Chief Engineer to standardize program and project delivery.
• Represent the Department with internal and external stakeholders at local, state, and national levels.
• Perform other duties to ensure safe, effective, and efficient regional operation.
