THE POSITION

As a Regional Traffic Management Center Operator with the Department of Transportation, you will play a key part in monitoring and managing roadway conditions across District 11. This position allows you to build strong operational skills in a fast paced environment. You will work with modern technology to support safety, communication, and coordinated responses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on monitoring traffic conditions, coordinating responses, and operating key communication and detection systems across the Interstate and Freeway network. You will support the safe and efficient movement of motorists by evaluating incidents and providing timely information. As a Regional Traffic Management Center Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Traffic Monitoring: Operate software and camera systems to observe roadway conditions and identify incidents
• System Operation: Control automated signs, sensors, and HOV lane systems to support safe and efficient travel
• Information Sharing: Provide real time traffic updates through message signs, advisory radio, and media communication
• Incident Coordination: Work with State Police, adjoining districts, and county agencies to address roadway concerns
• Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs, closure reports, and equipment status information
• Equipment Support: Assist with diagnostics and testing of field devices managed by the traffic center

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work schedule varies to cover this 24-hour Traffic Management Center, with a 30-minute lunch period.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.
