Job summary

Qualifications

• One year as Engineering Technician or Two years as Transportation Technician/Construction Cost Technician.
• One year of construction inspection experience with related engineering technology degree, or equivalent.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.

This role focuses on providing technical inspection support for transportation construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and standards. As a Transportation Construction Inspector (Construction), you will perform the following duties:

• Inspection Work: Conduct inspections of all phases of transportation construction to verify compliance with codes and plans
• Material Review: Examine placement of materials such as concrete, drainage components, and other required items
• Testing Duties: Perform compaction testing, as well as assess soil and aggregate conditions
• Project Documentation: Complete calculations, estimates, and reports to support project tracking and progress
• Stakeholder Interaction: Communicate with staff, agencies, and the public to support project administration
• Field Problem Solving: Assist with resolving issues that arise during construction activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• You will work closely with vendors, and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad-hoc, as approved, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
