Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

THE POSITION

Take part in important transportation work as a Transportation Construction Inspector with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. This role places you in both office and field settings where you will help support safe and efficient travel. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the Highway Occupancy Program by reviewing construction activities, guiding permit processes, and helping maintain safe transportation conditions. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Permit Administration: Review permit requests and coordinate program activities to meet Department goals
  • Construction Oversight: Inspect work sites to verify compliance with safety rules, standards, and permit conditions
  • Customer Service: Provide guidance and information to applicants, contractors, and members of the public
  • Team Coordination: Support employees by sharing knowledge, improving workflows, and encouraging quality efforts
  • Resource Management: Organize administrative tasks to maintain accurate documentation and efficient office operations
  • Standards Interpretation: Evaluate drawings, plans, and regulations to determine proper requirements and solutions

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirement
  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
