Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer | Regional Technical Leader to provide both technical and organizational leadership within our Power and Energy practice.

Lead protection and control teams on high-voltage substation projects, mentor staff, and drive delivery excellence across studies, relay settings, SCADA integration, and documentation while ensuring safety, quality, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• 15+ years of related experience in power and energy sector.
• Experience leading engineering teams and projects.
• Willingness to travel domestically/internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery, and technical execution of high-voltage substation protection and control projects.
• Serve as a technical authority for protective relaying, control systems, SCADA integration, automation, and communications.
• Develop, review, and approve protection and control deliverables (schematics, wiring, relay settings, panels).
• Lead power system studies, protection coordination, equipment selection, and engineering analyses.
• Ensure compliance with client requirements, utilities and CDM Smith quality procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for delivery, commissioning, testing, and startup.
• Drive technical excellence via reviews, standards development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and develop engineers and designers; manage performance and succession planning.
