Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer to provide technical and organizational leadership within our Power and Energy practice. You will lead design, studies, and project delivery for high‑voltage protection systems, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes protecting and controlling equipment, SCADA integration, and ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction on complex projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related engineering field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 15 years of related experience in electrical engineering or power delivery.
• Willingness to travel domestically or internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and execute high-voltage substation protection & control projects.
• Act as technical authority for relaying, control, SCADA, and communications.
• Develop and approve protection/controls deliverables (schematics, wiring, relay settings, panels, integration).
• Lead power system studies, protection coordination, equipment selection, and related analyses.
• Ensure compliance with client requirements, utility standards, and CDM Smith procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for delivery, commissioning, testing, and startup.
• Drive engineering excellence through reviews, standards development, and continuous improvement.
