Job summary

Cumberland County is seeking a part-time Regional Social Service Liaison to administer General Assistance for residents of contracted municipalities. The role interviews applicants, determines eligibility, and connects residents with resources while traveling among town offices.

Starting pay is based on qualifications and experience and ranges from $26.39 to $28.02 per hour. The position is 24 hours per week with a limited benefits package; applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Valid Maine Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of the Maine General Assistance law and municipal ordinances, or ability to acquire and apply promptly.
• Sound judgment, interviewing and research skills, accurate recordkeeping, and ability to make timely decisions within statutory and policy requirements.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and serve people without personal bias.
• Effective written, oral, and electronic communication; ability to respond calmly to difficult situations.
• Proficiency with common office software and equipment and the ability to learn case management systems.
• Knowledge of community resources and familiarity with immigrant, refugee, asylee, and asylum seeker services are helpful.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants and determine eligibility, need, and type of General Assistance.
• Document decisions and maintain confidential case files and reports.
• Coordinate with contracted towns on program delivery, policy compliance, performance, and budget monitoring.
• Prepare vouchers and invoices for payment and maintain related records.
• Communicate respectfully with applicants, municipal staff, County colleagues, and service providers; use translation services when appropriate.
• Perform related administrative work and other duties consistent with the position.
