Job summary

Cumberland County Government is seeking a part-time Regional Social Service Liaison to administer General Assistance for residents of municipalities contracting with the County. The role interviews applicants, determines eligibility, and connects residents with resources, traveling among participating town offices.

Starting pay aligns with the County’s step-based system and is $26.39–$28.02 per hour for 24 hrs per week. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Valid Maine Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of the Maine General Assistance law and municipal ordinances, or ability to acquire it promptly.
• Sound judgment, interviewing and recordkeeping, and timely decisions within statutory requirements.
• Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Effective written, oral, and electronic communication.
• Proficiency with common office software and the ability to learn case management systems.
• Knowledge of community resources; familiarity with immigrant, refugee, asylee, and asylum seeker services is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Receive applications; interview applicants; research and verify circumstances; determine eligibility, need, and type of assistance.
• Document decisions and maintain confidential case files and reports.
• Coordinate with contracted towns on program delivery, policy compliance, and budget monitoring.
• Prepare vouchers and invoices for payment and maintain related records.
• Communicate respectfully with applicants, municipal staff, County colleagues, and service providers; use translation services when appropriate.
• Perform related administrative work and other duties consistent with the position.
