The Regional Manager is responsible for leading a sales team across Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin to meet annual business development targets. The role includes recruiting, training, and building a high‑performing team while driving growth through strategic planning, pipeline management and continuous improvement.
Sales Management
- Leads the recruitment process to attract top talent and build a cohesive regional team.
- Implements training curriculum for new hires and works with specialists and mentors to provide on‑site training.
- Collaborates with L&D, Sales Director and other regional managers to build continuous training for all reps.
- Effectively communicates organizational and sales‑specific vision and goals to ensure alignment.
- Clarifies expectations for all aspects of the Sales Representative position.
- Manages communication, coaching and travel with each Sales Representative to develop skills, evaluate performance and build relationships.
- Engages in direct communication to address performance issues or manage conflict when necessary.
- Consistently improves business processes and systems to increase workflow efficiency.
- Maintains strong individual and team morale within the region.
- Leads through change by welcoming new ideas, articulating expectations and listening for feedback.
- Uses critical thinking and business sense to make decisions involving risk and ambiguity.
Strategic Planning
- Develops and executes the Regional Business Plan to achieve revenue goals.
- Provides guidance on sales territorial business plans.
- Coordinates all sales resources, travel and support throughout the region.
- Takes ownership of high‑profile, high‑priority customers and sales targets.
- Communicates with Sales Specialists, Marketing Managers and Program Managers regarding opportunities, strategies and training.
- Ensures company systems and tools are used efficiently.
- Analyzes territories for a healthy mix of accounts and opportunities.
- Participates in planning and implementation of regional and national sales meetings and other sales‑related events.
- Manages travel and entertainment expenses within budget.
Pipeline Management and Reporting
- Builds accurate forecasts to provide predictive indicators of performance.
- Uses data to gain insights, solve problems and inform decisions.
- Coaches reps to use revenue and forecasting data for territory planning.
- Trains reps to use reporting effectively in territory planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum five years of sales experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience using Salesforce and generating/analyzing reports.
- Demo and presentation skills, preferably for digital products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in publishing, sales and management preferred.
- Success driving digital product adoption or subscription‑based software sales.
- Proven ability to coach and develop sales professionals through data‑driven performance management.
- Experience implementing innovative sales strategies or testing new approaches that improved engagement or revenue growth.
- Strategic decision‑making skills in ambiguous environments.
- Passion for emerging educational technologies (AI‑powered learning solutions, digital courseware, analytics platforms, etc.).
Salary
Salary: $100,000 – $110,000 per year.
Exemption Status
Exempt
Physical Requirements
Requires periods of close concentration; must be able to multitask and travel up to 40%; may work overtime as needed.
