Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling is seeking a Safety Training Specialist to lead new hire safety orientation and deliver comprehensive CMV driver training. The role covers OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA compliance training across operational teams, with emphasis on safety, documentation, and continuous improvement.

You will develop and manage training programs with region-wide impact, maintain records, and participate in incidents investigations and audits.

Qualifications

• Must be able to train others in a clear, professional manner
• Excellent verbal and written communication with internal/external customers
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and OSHA safety compliance in waste hauling
• Knowledge of mechanical functions of commercial vehicles
• Computer proficiency with Windows applications
• Knowledge of the waste industry and hauling operations
• Ability to operate a commercial vehicle under DOT rules
• Must read/speak English well

Responsibilities

• Lead new hire safety orientation sessions establishing a safety-first mindset
• Deliver CMV driver training covering pre-trip inspections and safe driving practices
• Conduct OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA compliance training for operational roles
• Develop and manage HE and Certified PIT training programs
• Maintain training documentation, certifications, and audit reports
• Develop processes to measure training competencies and knowledge checks
• Facilitate toolbox talks and safety huddles with actionable messaging
• Perform field observations and ride-alongs to reinforce safe work habits
• Identify training needs with operations leaders and address trends
• Support incident investigations with training insights and corrective actions
• Assist with site health and safety inspections/audits
• Perform other duties as assigned
