Job description

Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Senior Project Manager/Engineer to be a part of our Southern Lumber Engineering Team. The Senior Project Manager/Engineer is instrumental in advising area leaders in technology enhancements needed to improve operating performance and supporting process reliability improvement and strategies. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Lumber Engineering Leader and would be a regional resource, traveling to our Gulf South lumber mills as needed and required. Candidates should reside in the Southern United States, preferably in Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama.

Your Impact - As a Senior Project Manager/Engineer, you will work closely with mill leadership teams, technical team members, and external contractors and vendors to implement capital and pool projects safely and efficiently within budgetary guidelines. Additionally, you will lead and facilitate the capital execution process for the area while organizing and documenting all required records, serving as a central process facilitator. You will be working in a true team environment with a constant slate of projects at multiple locations. To thrive in this role, you will possess excellent organizational skills to manage daily priorities and exceptional leadership skills for successful project installations.

Essential Functions

  1. Manage the region's capital improvement plan and drive deadlines.
  2. Work with mill teams to develop scope, estimates, and justification for projects.
  3. Convey information on projects to business leadership as the key contact.
  4. Participate in all key project decision-making.
  5. Serve as the primary contact with engineering teams of vendors and consultants.
  6. Lead the Site Steering Team — develop agendas, provide project updates, and facilitate meetings.
  7. Participate in reliable process design, ensuring details are accurate.
  8. Manage permitting, engineering, equipment, and labor to meet project schedules.
  9. Ensure compliance with permits during construction.
  10. Oversee project safety, schedule, budget, and quality.
  11. Organize and develop the construction and safety teams, including project updates and meetings.
  12. Coordinate with construction and safety managers to ensure project success.
  13. Perform roles of construction and safety manager if needed or act as a backup.
  14. Manage the process related to Change Management and communication.
  15. Remove roadblocks for project execution.
  16. Provide monthly project status reports.
  17. Keep leadership informed of project activities.
  18. Work with purchasing and accounting on commitments and spending, adhering to budgets.
  19. Coordinate commissioning and startup phases with site resources, construction managers, and vendors.
  20. Work with procurement on purchase orders and invoice validation.
  21. Support development of safety and operational procedures like LOTO, JSAs, SOPs.
  22. Assist in commissioning and startup plans and execution.
  23. Collaborate on equipment capitalization post-startup.
  24. Schedule and lead Gate 4 meetings.
  25. Evaluate project effectiveness and apply learnings for process improvement.
  26. Support troubleshooting safety and reliability issues at mills.
  27. Apply engineering principles to repair and optimize mill activities.
  28. Identify and implement Operations Excellence initiatives.
  29. Participate in manufacturing solutions implementation.
  30. Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, with 5-10 years of project management experience in an industrial setting, preferably lumber manufacturing, or 15+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing methods and continuous improvement processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of statistical theory and application.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, Word, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Commitment to safety and knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment, project management, scheduling, and contractor management.
  • Experience leading process reliability practices.

Our Investment in You: What We Offer

Compensation: Salary range of $126,000 to $189,000, midpoint $157,600, with annual merit increases and eligibility for a bonus up to 20% of base pay, subject to plan funding.
