Job description

SunSmart Engineering is expanding fast, and we’re looking for a driven, early-career engineer to join our remote team. We design and seal engineering plans for solar PV systems, energy storage, pools, screen enclosures, docks, roofing, and more. With new contractor partners and strong demand across Florida, we’re growing rapidly—and need sharp, curious minds ready to dive in.

This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or final-semester student in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering who is ready to apply their knowledge across a variety of real-world projects. You’ll work directly with licensed engineers, contribute to meaningful designs, and gain experience across multiple disciplines.

What You’ll Do:

  • Draft and review engineering plans using AutoCAD
  • Support design work for a wide range of residential and commercial projects (solar, pools, structural, and more)
  • Research and apply building codes (including the International Building Code and Florida Building Code)
  • Develop permit-ready plan sets with a focus on clarity and code compliance
  • Work directly with licensed PEs and multidisciplinary teams
  • Build the technical and professional foundation necessary to pursue a Professional Engineering (PE) license

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with the International Building Code (IBC) and general permitting requirements
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and a willingness to learn across disciplines
  • Based in Florida (remote work with occasional site visit opportunities)

Why Join SunSmart

  • Competitive pay with room for advancement
  • Exposure to diverse projects across renewable energy and the building industry
  • Direct mentorship from experienced, licensed engineers
  • Flexible, remote-first work culture with a Florida focus
