Job summary

Greater Nashville Regional Council seeks an experienced land use planner to join its Community and Regional Planning Department in Nashville. The role supports regional plans for transportation, solid waste, economic development, and related issues, with local government client work.

Responsibilities include reviewing site plans and zoning permits, preparing staff reports, researching planning issues, and developing maps with ArcGIS.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in community and regional planning or related field is required.
  • At least two years of professional planning experience; local government experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree plus four years of planning experience may substitute for the master’s degree.
  • Foreign degrees will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional planning and technical assistance to local communities.
  • Review site plans, plats, and zoning approvals for compliance with plans and regulations.
  • Prepare and present staff reports to planning boards and stakeholders.
  • Conduct research and analysis to update local or regional plans and policies.
  • Develop maps and data visualizations using ArcGIS and planning tools.
  • Stay current on state and federal planning regulations.
  • Undertake additional projects as assigned by the Director.
