Job description

Regional General Manager

at Zócalo Health

Hybrid in San Jose, California

Compensation: $150,000-$160,000 per year

About Us

Zócalo Health is the first tech-driven provider built specifically for Latinos, by Latinos. We are developing a new approach to care that is designed around our very own shared and lived experiences and brings care to our gente. Founded in 2021 on the idea that our communities deserve more than just safety nets, we are backed by leading healthcare and social impact investors in the country to bring our vision to life.

Our mission is to improve the lives of our communities—communities that have dealt with generations of poor experiences. These experiences include waiting hours in waiting rooms, spending mere minutes with doctors who don't speak their language, and depending on their youngest kids to help them navigate our complex healthcare system. At Zócalo Health, we meet our members where they are, bringing care into their homes and neighborhoods through our team of community-based care providers and virtual care offerings.

We partner with community-based organizations, local healthcare providers, and health plans that recognize the value of culturally aligned care, which are not limited to brief interactions in an exam room. Together, we are building a new experience that revolves around the use of modern technology, culturally competent primary care, behavioral health, and social services to provide a radically better experience of care for every member, their family, and the communities we serve.

We are committed to expanding our reach to serve more members and their communities. We are looking for passionate individuals who share our belief that healthcare should be accessible, personalized, and rooted in the community. Join us in our mission to ensure that no one has to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system alone and that everyone receives the local, culturally competent care they deserve.

Role Description

The Regional General Manager will join Zócalo Health at a critical time in the history of our company and of primary care. The opportunity for impact is large and growing, and Zócalo Health will lead the transition from fee-for-service to value-based care for the growing Latino community in the U.S.

An integral member of the Zócalo Health team, you will be the strategic and operational leader for all activities within your assigned region. This role is directly responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, localized strategy to drive patient acquisition—leveraging deep understanding of community dynamics, cultural context, and regional health landscape. The Regional General Manager will lead Community Engagement and Community Partnerships teams, and collaborate cross-functionally with dotted-line partners across regional CHWs, Business Development, Implementation, Finance, Customer Support, and other centralized teams to ensure effective service delivery and community impact.

This is a highly entrepreneurial role requiring both strategic insight and strong execution. The Regional General Manager will serve as the central connector for regional operations, with accountability for growth, retention, team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and performance outcomes.

This position will initially report to the company's CEO. The reporting structure for this role will likely change in the future.

  • Develop and deploy campaigns, partnership models, and outreach tactics tailored to the region's unique needs—collaborating with Central Marketing and Business Development as needed.
  • Set and monitor acquisition targets, iterate based on performance data, and mobilize resources accordingly.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide direct leadership to Community Engagement Managers and Community Partnerships Managers, guiding performance, coaching, and development.Ensure alignment and accountability for daily execution while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and community-centered service.
  • Coordinate dotted-line partners (e.g., CHWs, Customer Support, Implementation) to align regional workflows and service delivery with strategic goals.

Cross-functional & Central Alignment

  • Lead the regional operating rhythm, including pipeline meetings, claims reviews, and escalation forums to remove barriers and accelerate impact.
  • Collaborate with central teams to align on resourcing, budget, staffing plans, and strategic initiatives while advocating for region-specific needs.
  • Translate enterprise-wide strategies into local execution plans with clear KPIs and milestones.

Community & External Engagement

  • Build and sustain relationships with community leaders, community based organizations, referral partners, hospitals, and local institutions.
  • Represent the organization in external forums and contribute to thought leadership and brand reputation in the region.
  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships, events, and community programs that support growth and awareness.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare, population health, public health, or community-based services, with a strong track record of regional growth and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated success designing and executing outreach or patient acquisition strategies tailored to underserved communities or populations.
  • Deep understanding of local health and social service landscape, with existing relationships or the ability to quickly build strong regional networks.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing field-based or distributed teams in fast-paced, high-accountability environments.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate big-picture goals into regional action plans and measurable results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Mission-driven and equity-oriented, with a commitment to serving underserved or marginalized communities.
