Job summary

Hanson is seeking a Regional Environmental Assessment Lead to advance infrastructure projects while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and protecting natural resources. You will lead NEPA documentation, permitting efforts, field investigations, and stakeholder engagement.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and schedules, and act as a trusted consultant to clients across markets in the Greater Chicago Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field; master’s preferred.
• 5+ years of environmental consulting or regulatory agency experience.
• Strong knowledge of NEPA, CWA, ESA, and related environmental laws.
• Experience with Illinois Tollway, IDOT, INDOT and rail projects preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and client interaction skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex environmental projects from planning through delivery.
• Contribute to NEPA documentation, CE/EA preparation, and permit applications.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies (USACE, USFWS, EPA, state/local).
• Develop scopes, schedules, budgets, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical writing, project approach, and cost estimating support.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, surveyors, and GIS specialists.
