Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced estimator to lead estimating activities across regions, coordinating with project managers and design leads to ensure cost-effective, buildable proposals.

The role requires strong knowledge of estimating practices, cost control and access to historic data. Travel up to 40% may be necessary; the ideal candidate has a proven track record in multi-trade estimates and procurement support.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of how corporate objectives impact estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
• Reads and comprehends drawings and specifications and identify missing elements during design development.

Responsibilities

• Manages and administers the estimating functions in assigned region, area or group to include operating budgets, staffing assignments, and work assignments.
• Implements established estimating policies in in assigned region, area or group to meet overall corporate objectives.
• Works with project managers to provide administrative and technical assistance in negotiating purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders during procurement.
• Supervises the preparation of market cost studies, materials and methods, and recommends appropriate changes to database.
• Assists region leadership by reviewing project details and provides recommendations, and collaboratively determines strategies, techniques, and resources needed.
• Provides close coordination and oversight with design discipline leads for cost effectiveness and constructability for proposals.
• Maintains all historical data for estimating man‑hours for various types of estimates and bid results by project.
• Reviews all final estimate and proposal packages to ensure accuracy and completeness for formal quotation and presentation.
• Contacts subcontractors and suppliers for outsource pricing.
