Job description

Job Title: Regional Editor, Equity, Real Estate

Location: New York, hybrid - 3 days in, 2 at home

Salary: $100,000 - $110,000

Job Reference number: 35716

This is an opportunity for an experienced financial reporter to take the step up into an editorial role.

You will join an established publication in the real estate sector, inherit strong relationships within the market, and be part of the editorial team that delivers market-moving insight for its audience of investors. You will deliver a combination of hard news & in-depth analysis, editing on diary stories & scoops for online news and shaping longer form features, interviews and cover stories for magazines.

You’ll be expected to push the quality of this publication’s output, identify holes in a story, push reporters to find their angle and help them develop. Direct line management of reporters will come with time, and you’ll work with the Editor to help shape this newsroom’s transition.

You will need the competitive desire to deliver news that puts this publication at the forefront of the sector against its competitor titles. As well as existing contacts you can bring across, you will also be proactively building relationships with people in the market, through conference attendance and face-to-face meetings, and develop your profile within the sector by chairing roundtables at this publication's events.

A strong grounding in the key trends within the real estate sector, knowledge of its equity financing dynamics, and a track record of producing financial or business scoops is fundamental. This is an opportunity to build from that base into a leadership position where you can begin to direct a newsroom.

Key responsibilities
  • Give substantive editorial feedback on reporters’ stories as well as editing copy and write compelling analysis & thought leadership content.
  • Proactively build a contact book across real estate financiers, developers and agents to support the existing team's network.
  • Contribute to the editorial agenda for the publication and chair thought leadership discussions and host roundtables at the organisation's events.
  • Help onboard and support reporters, with scope to take on formal line-management responsibility as the team grows.
Key requirements
  • Experience reporting within B2B financial journalism, strong knowledge of private real estate markets and equity funding dynamics.
  • Some editing experience and good instincts about how to give developmental feedback as well as copyediting.
  • A track record of breaking off-diary news, impactful analysis and ideas about how to set an editorial agenda.

Please note: this organisation is unable to sponsor a new work visa for this role but can support the transfer of an existing employer-sponsored visa (e.g. H1B) where the candidate is able to cover any associated costs.
