Job summary

American Red Cross in California is seeking a Disaster Action Team Manager to lead, develop, and support disaster volunteer teams, and manage community and government relationships within an assigned geography.

Regional travel up to 50% and deployment to disaster operations will be required. The preferred base is the Regional Headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles, with reporting options to other chapter offices; strong leadership and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Minimum 5 years of related experience with building, mobilizing, leading, and developing volunteer teams.
• Current valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Empower Volunteers: Lead and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming throughout the assigned geographic area or functional activities throughout the region.
• Lead the Program: Implement disaster cycle services activities within the geographic area or region and help improve plans to meet programmatic vision.
• Mission Capacity Building: Develop Disaster Leadership Volunteers and volunteer partners to meet responsibilities in readiness, response, and recovery.
• Engage Community: Lead and coordinate efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners with specific expertise to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
• Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate with internal partners in a matrix management environment.
• Know Your Communities: Act as the disaster subject matter expert to maximize presence and community engagement.
• Ready to Respond: Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in the assigned area or region.
