Job summary

Great American Insurance Group seeks a Commercial Surety Underwriting Specialist to support our Southeast or Mid-Atlantic regions. This in-office role involves traveling within the assigned territory and delivering expert underwriting decisions.

You will analyze financial statements, conduct credit checks, and establish risk-based pricing while building strategic internal and external relationships to drive profitability and service quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
• Experience: 5+ years in underwriting or surety underwriting.
• Progression toward specialized certifications such as AFSB, CPA, or RPLU is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand and analyze business reports used in underwriting, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements.
• Responsible for risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for their branch office.
• Assess risk quality in compliance with company guidelines.
• Review underwriting of others and make recommendations for extending surety credit.
