Job summary

Markel in the United States is seeking a Business Development Manager for the Central Region (IL, MI, OH, WI). The role acts as a primary business development conduit with Markel's retail partners, coordinating with national business development, underwriting, and leadership to build brand awareness.

You will travel up to 50%+, foster producer engagement, develop marketing strategies, and seek opportunities for growth across property, casualty, and professional liability lines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of business development/marketing experience with Markel’s retail producers.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
• First hand understanding of team based decision making in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Strong relationship development and negotiation skills.
• Understanding of property, casualty, and professional liability underwriting and claims.
• Ability to travel 50% or more, when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with external trading partners and internal teams.
• Facilitate communications and workflows between underwriters and producers.
• Coordinate producer visits with underwriters and leadership to maintain marketing presence.
• Develop business opportunities for existing and new products with brokers.
• Create and execute regional marketing strategies focused on growth and profitability.
• Provide updates on sales progress, forecasts, and results to management.
• Research retail market needs to ensure Markel’s relevance with producers.
• Promote cross-marketing and renewal retention with producers.
• Engage in industry reconnaissance.
