Job summary

Markel is seeking a Sr. Director, Underwriting to lead trading relationships with top broker partners across the US Retail segment.

You will strategize with regional leaders, drive growth, and ensure executive-level connections between Markel and broker senior leaders. The role requires a deep track record in business development or underwriting, expert relationship skills, and the ability to influence across functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10 years in business development and/or underwriting in P&C and specialty insurance.
• Proven executive relationships with the industry’s top 25 P&C and Specialty retail brokers.
• Expert relationship development skills and a strong personal brand.
• Proven leadership and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to deliver strong written and verbal presentations.
• High energy, strategic thinker, proactive self-starter.
• Ability to manage a mid-to-high volume of national travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement broker strategies to drive growth and build preference for Markel Specialty’s US Retail.
• Create engagement plans to build executive relationships with Markel leaders and brokers.
• Identify and evaluate growth opportunities using data, market intel, and relationships.
• Collaborate with underwriting and distribution to execute broker strategies and gather feedback.
• Advocate for brokers, manage accounts and escalations.
• Hold brokers accountable for engagement and results.
• Lead through influence and expertise.
