The City of Norfolk's Public Works Department is seeking a Refuse Collector II within the Waste Management Division. This role collects waste from residential properties along an assigned route and monitors the collection truck for required maintenance.

Qualifications

• Reading and understanding written instructions to understand simple processes and the routine operations of machines.
• Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
• Five years’ experience in refuse collection or related.

Responsibilities

• Collects and disposes of waste by operating an automated truck and collecting from curbs according to assigned routes.
• Maintains the truck by fueling, cleaning, and checking brake and back-up lights.
• Conducts CDL Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections.
• Interacts with citizens by explaining refuse collection codes and procedures.
