Job summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Silver Spring, MD seeks an Employment Specialist to help newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants achieve self-sufficiency through employment preparation, job placement coordination, and career advancement services. Hybrid work arrangement with duties including intake, planning, coaching, employer outreach, post-placement support, and data tracking.

Requires a bachelor’s in a related field and 2+ years in workforce development; English

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in workforce development preferred.
• Experience with refugee/immigrant populations is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to build relationships with employers and service providers.
• Strong communication, time-management and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessment and provide program orientation to clients eligible for employment services.
• Develop comprehensive employment plans and budget strategies for each employable adult.
• Provide job readiness and job search coaching and connect clients with job opportunities.
• Develop and cultivate relationships with area employers and staffing agencies to identify opportunities.
• Assist clients and employers with post-placement issues and continuing employment needs.
• Monitor client job performance, wage levels and related metrics.
• Input client information in databases and assist with tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with coworkers and partner organizations; build service-provider networks.
• Use a personal vehicle/public transportation to travel within the service area as needed.
• May train and lead staff, volunteers, and interns; and perform other duties as assigned.
