Job summary

International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Charlottesville is seeking an Employment Specialist to guide newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants toward self-sufficiency through employment preparation, placements, and career advancement services.

You will conduct intake, develop employment plans, provide coaching, and build relationships with local employers to identify opportunities and support clients post-placement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in workforce development; refugee/immigrant populations experience preferred.
• Experience with job placement and job readiness training a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessment and provide program orientation for clients eligible for employment services.
• Develop comprehensive employment plans and budget strategies for each employable adult.
• Provide job readiness and job search coaching and connect clients with opportunities.
• Develop and cultivate relationships with area employers and staffing agencies to identify opportunities.
• Assist clients and employers with post-placement issues and ongoing employment needs.
• Monitor client job performance, wage levels and related metrics.
• Document each client interaction per program requirements.
• Input client data in databases and assist with tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with coworkers and partner organizations.
• Build relationships with area service providers for client benefits.
• Travel using personal vehicle or public transport to service area as needed.
• May train and lead support staff, volunteers, and interns.
• Other duties as assigned.
