Job summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Employment Specialist in Iowa assists newly arrived refugees and other qualified immigrants to attain self-sufficiency through employment. You will guide clients through employment preparation, coordinate job placements and deliver career advancement services.

Responsibilities include intake, assessments, developing employment plans, coaching, and building relationships with local employers to identify opportunities for clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in workforce development or related field preferred.
• Experience with refugee/immigrant populations preferred.
• Strong relationship-building and networking skills; ability to work cross-culturally.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessment and orient clients to employment services.
• Develop employment plans and budget strategies for each client.
• Provide job readiness and job search coaching; connect clients with opportunities.
• Cultivate relationships with area employers and staffing agencies.
• Assist with post-placement issues and ongoing employment needs.
