Job summary

Smithfield Foods seeks a maintenance professional to support industrial equipment in a team environment. You will perform repairs, inspections, and troubleshooting while upholding safety and GMP standards.

Candidates should have RETA or related certifications, plus strong mechanical/electrical knowledge. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1+ year experience in industrial maintenance or 4 years direct experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Industrial maintenance knowledge across multiple areas such as RETA, refrigeration, electrical, hydraulics, and machining.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work independently. Preference for formal maintenance certification or degree.
  • Full-time hourly role; willingness to work all shifts, extended hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Have or attain RETA certification; ensure safety leadership and practices.
  • Plan and conduct equipment repairs as part of a team.
  • Conduct routine audits and equipment inspections; troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain clear communication with operations; respond to unplanned work.
  • Follow food safety and GMPs; be motivated to work independently.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.

  • Industrial maintenance experience should include comprehensive knowledge in three or more of the following areas:

    • RETA Certification

    • Ammonia Refrigeration

    • Engine & Boiler systems

    • Electricity & motor controls

    • Controls & instrumentation

    • PLC/software & hardware

    • Pneumatics & Hydraulics

    • Mechanical systems

    • Predictive/Predictivemaintenance

    • Maintenance Planning

    • Site utilities

    • System analysis & troubleshooting

    • Machining

    • Metal fabrication

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently are also required for this position.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a certification or degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance and/or related college or technical level course work.

  • This is a full-time hourly position; all applicants should be willing to work all shifts(days/evenings/overnights),extended hours and weekends.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing the buddy system or specifically designed lifting devices
