Job summary

Century Mechanical Holdings in Medford, MA is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial refrigeration and HVAC projects, including refrigeration piping, equipment, labor, materials, and subcontractor costs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial refrigeration and/or HVAC estimating experience.
• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and refrigerant piping.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Experience performing detailed material and labor takeoffs.
• Understanding of refrigeration equipment installation practices.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Excel and estimating software.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts mechanical/refrigeration codes preferred.
• Previous field experience as refrigeration pipefitter/technician a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, and bid docs for refrigeration projects.
• Prepare detailed estimates for installations, renovations, and HVAC work.
• Perform material and labor takeoffs for piping, fittings, valves, equipment, controls, and insulation.
• Estimate labor requirements based on project scope, complexity, schedules, and field conditions.
• Obtain and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Prepare accurate project budgets and competitive bid proposals.
• Identify project risks, exclusions, clarifications, and potential cost impacts.
• Review equipment schedules and specifications for compressors, condensers, evaporators, and racks.
• Coordinate with project managers, field leadership, vendors, and customers during bidding.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and job-site walkthroughs when required.
• Assist with value engineering and alternative solutions to improve cost and constructability.
• Track bid opportunities, deadlines, proposals, and follow-up activities.
• Assist with change-order pricing and additional work estimates.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and project documentation.
• Support transition of awarded projects from estimating to project management and field operations.

Base + Commission

We are seeking an experienced Refrigeration Estimator to join our team in Medford, MA. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial refrigeration and HVAC projects, including refrigeration piping, equipment, labor, materials, and subcontractor costs.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of commercial refrigeration systems, refrigerant piping, mechanical plans, specifications, and construction estimating. Previous hands-on refrigeration or pipefitting experience is a strong plus.

Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial refrigeration and/or HVAC estimating experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and refrigerant piping.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Experience performing detailed material and labor takeoffs.
• Understanding of refrigeration equipment, piping installation, brazing requirements, pressure testing, evacuation, and system installation practices.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts mechanical/refrigeration codes and industry standards preferred.
• Previous field experience as a Refrigeration Pipefitter, Refrigeration Technician, or HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating commercial refrigeration construction projects.
• Experience with supermarkets, cold storage, restaurants, food-service facilities, or other commercial refrigeration applications.
• Familiarity with refrigeration racks, walk-in coolers/freezers, condensers, evaporators, compressors, and associated piping systems.
• Experience working with general contractors, mechanical contractors, vendors, and equipment manufacturers.
• Relevant refrigeration/HVAC licenses or certifications are a plus.
