Job summary

Plano Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage the referral workflow, verify insurance requirements, and prevent delays in care. You will work closely with patients, referring providers, insurance carriers, and internal teams to document referrals accurately, maintain queues, and keep appointments on track.

This role requires organization, proactive communication, and a commitment to excellent customer service in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in medical office/referral processes.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Excellent customer service and written/verbal communication.
• Ability to manage high volume of patient information.
• Comfortable learning EHR and PM systems.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage incoming referral workflow.
• Schedule patients using practice management software.
• Work Comp intake assistance as needed.
• Verify insurance referral requirements and confirm referrals prior to appointment.
• Contact providers to request new or updated referrals.
• Verify referrals contain patient demographics, provider, diagnosis, dates, visits.
• Monitor referral expiration dates and remaining visits.
• Ensure referrals are valid for the correct provider and services.
• Document referral information in EMR/PM systems.
• Maintain referral queues and upcoming appointment lists.
• Follow up on pending referrals and escalate unresolved issues.
• Communicate with patients for additional information.
• Collaborate with scheduling, front desk, clinical, billing, and verification teams.
