Job summary

OrthoArizona is seeking a Patient Referral Specialist to coordinate referrals to specialty providers and ensure timely scheduling. You will facilitate communication between patients, internal clinicians, and external specialists to maintain continuity of care throughout the referral process.

The role requires 1–2 years in a medical office or referral coordination setting, strong communication skills, and proficiency with EMR systems and MS Office.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in a medical office or referral coordination role.

Responsibilities

• Promptly contact patients after referral review and route calls as needed.
• Coordinate with external specialty offices to schedule appointments.
• Collect and verify patient demographics and insurance details for accurate scheduling.
• Schedule appointments based on referral urgency and provider availability.
• Confirm insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations or pre-referrals.
• Document all referral and scheduling activities in the EMR using proper medical terminology.
• Maintain thorough documentation to track referral progress and ensure referral loop closure.
• Collaborate with clinicians, external providers and staff to clarify referral details and ensure seamless care.
