Job summary

TN Valley Primary Care, a division of Summit Medical Group, seeks a Referral Coordinator to manage referrals to specialists and coordinate patient check-outs. This full-time on-site role supports a busy front-office team in Jefferson City, TN.

Responsibilities include handling referrals, scheduling, authorizations, and accurate chart updates in Athena, with emphasis on patient service and efficient office workflows.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prefer one year of experience in medical billing.
• Experience handling referrals and coordinating with physicians.

Responsibilities

• Receives and returns phone calls to patients, other physicians’ offices, insurance companies and other offices as appropriate.
• Completes referral forms correctly and timely and faxes/mails forms to other physicians’ offices, insurance companies and other recipients.
• Schedules patients’ appointments as needed.
• Obtains prior telephonic approvals for out-of-network specialists and pre-certifications for specialists.
• Uses Athena to access patient charts and document properly.
• Maintains daily logs of contacts and completed tasks.
• Advises patients on PCP referral procedures and insurance policies, and keeps this information updated.
• Performs other front-office duties such as scanning, answering phones, and check-in as requested.
