Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Reference Laboratory Coordinator, Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to oversee daily operations, logistics, and quality management of patient specimens referred to external reference laboratories.

This role serves as the primary liaison between physicians, laboratory staff, and reference laboratory partners, ensuring timely, accurate processing and reporting in compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences (or equivalent) required.
• ASCP certification required.
• 3-5 years of clinical lab experience required.
• Experience with reference laboratory operations and LIS systems helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of reference laboratory operations, including specimen handling and reporting.
• Train and assess competency of send-out staff.
• Update procedures, workflows, and training materials.
• Ensure accurate entry and reporting of results in LIS.
• Monitor pending tests and resolve issues.
• Serve as primary contact for physicians and lab staff.
• Support quality management and proficiency monitoring.
• Participate in enterprise initiatives and reference testing workflows.
• Maintain inventory of shipping supplies and related materials.
• Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, DOT/IATA, and regulations.
• Rotate every third weekend and holiday.
