Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist for its Central Receiving & Reference Laboratory. You will oversee daily operations, coordinate send-out testing, and collaborate with leadership to ensure quality, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

You will mentor staff, drive process improvements, and support workforce development while delivering exceptional service in a premier academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or equivalent field.
• MLS certification through ASCP Board of Certification or equivalent knowledge-based certification, OR a minimum of two years of MLS experience.
• Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory methodologies, quality assurance principles, laboratory regulations, and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment.
• Oversee the Send-Out Reference Laboratory and Central Receiving operations.
• Partner with laboratory leadership to drive quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Mentor and train laboratory professionals to support workforce development and growth.
• Contribute to process improvement and performance initiatives that directly impact patient care.
