Job summary

Trilogy Behavioral Healthcare in Chicago, IL seeks a Recovery Counselor - Substance Use Specialist (Reentry) to assess clients’ needs and plan treatment across home, community, and office settings, using trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches.

The role emphasizes harm-reduction strategies, coordination with local agencies, and delivering at least 75% community-based services to individuals with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with two years of supervised clinical experience.
• Minimum one year of experience working with clients with substance abuse issues.
• Valid Illinois driver's license and daily access to a vehicle with $100,000/$300,000 liability insurance.
• CADC, CRADC, CSADC, CAAP, or CARS certification required or must obtain within 24 months of hire.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Experience with mental health diagnoses and community-based services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with CCSO and Trilogy team to identify and connect referrals in Cook County Jail’s Residential Treatment Units and Cermak Hospital.
• Support coverage of one evening shift per week to accommodate evening discharges.
• Provide court support and navigation to mitigate risk of incarceration.
• Assess client needs through home, community, and office visits; devise recovery plans.
• Facilitate education around substance use disorders and dual diagnosis risks.
• Provide individual services focused on substance use goals.
• Assist clients in linking to community treatment and entitlements.
