Job summary

City of Auburn is seeking a Recreation Assistant/Leader to supervise programs, provide on-site leadership, and support staff and volunteers. You will interact with participants, officials, and the public, help implement program plans, and ensure safety and order at events.

The role requires working evenings and weekends, passing a background check, and may require First Aid/CPR. Experience in recreation programming is preferred, along with dependable attendance and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old for Recreation Assistant and 18 years old for Recreation Leader.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
• Must be able to pass background check.
• First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
• Previous experience in recreation programming and supervision preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site leadership.
• Work courteously and effectively with participants, public officials, citizens, contractors, supervisor, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with information pertaining to City and department.
• Assist in developing, and follow, specific lesson or program plans.
• Oversee the facility while program is conducted.
• Provide program and staff feedback to supervisor.
• Assist in the training and supervision of program staff and volunteers on site.
• Deal with disruptive behavior in a positive manner.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Keep program supplies and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
• Enforce department rules and regulations.
• Work evenings and weekends in support of program events.
• Represent the department with program participants and the public.
• Attend training sessions required by the department.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
• May perform miscellaneous basic office tasks.
