Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to develop, coordinate, and evaluate sports, recreation, and wellness programs at the Denver Red Shield for the Whittier neighborhood and surrounding communities.

The role emphasizes inclusive, high-quality activities for youth, adults, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, integrating faith-based elements and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation-related field preferred.
• Two years experience in recreational programming with leadership and supervisory duties.
• Experience working with diverse urban communities, preferably in Denver or similar settings.
• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and oversee sports leagues, tournaments, fitness classes, open gyms, events, and rental contracts.
• Design programs that are Christ-centered with daily prayer, Scripture, devotions or other spiritual practices.
• Supervise and train staff, coaches, referees, and volunteers.
• Maintain schedules, registrations, licenses, and participation records.
• Develop policies for safety, staff accountability, and orderly activities.
