This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); NAS OCEANA. Incumbent provides lifeguard duties and is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area. Additionally, the incumbent assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.
Duties
Pool and/or Waterfront Lifeguard duties comprise 60% of the incumbent's time and include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring the safety of patrons and responding promptly to emergencies.
- Conducting routine safety inspections of the pool and waterfront areas.
- Performing water rescues using surf lifesaving techniques.
- Enforcing facility rules and regulations tactfully and effectively.
- Assisting with aquatic training and educational programs.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- NF-2 must upload the following certifications to be qualified: 1) Lifeguard Certification, 2) CPR for Professional Rescuers, 3) First Aid including Automated External Defibrillator, and 4) Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of pool and waterfront safety rules.
- Knowledge of DoD, DON, and CNIC policies and procedures governing aquatic assessment testing and certifications.
- Knowledge of applicable policies and procedures of MWR regarding the use of aquatic facilities and waterfront operations.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
- Ability to identify hazards or hazardous situations and patrons' needs for assistance immediately.
- Ability to provide water safety instructions and enforce rules effectively.
- Ability to conduct safety inspections to meet environmental health standards.
- Knowledge of and ability to conduct pool chemical testing, document results, and adjust chemicals as needed.
- Skilled in surf lifesaving techniques and radio communications for rescue operations.
- Ability to manage large groups of people.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
