Job description

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); Naval Station Norfolk Aquatics. Incumbent provides lifeguard duties; is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area; assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.

Duties

Pool and/or waterfront lifeguard duties comprise 60% of the incumbent's time and include, but are not limited to:

• Providing lifeguard services to ensure safety at aquatic facilities.
• Assisting with aquatic training and education programs.
• Performing safety inspections and hazard assessments of the pool and waterfront areas.

Requirements

• Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved prior to employment.
• NF-2 must upload the following certifications to be qualified: 1) Lifeguard Certification, 2) CPR for Professional Rescuers, 3) First Aid including AED, and 4) Blood Borne Pathogens.

• Ability to identify hazards or hazardous situations immediately and recognize a patron's need for assistance.
• Ability to instruct on water safety, enforce rules tactfully but firmly.
• Ability to conduct safety inspections to meet health standards.
• Knowledge of pool chemical testing, documentation, and adjustments.
• Proficiency in surf lifesaving techniques and radio communication for rescues.
• Ability to manage large groups effectively.
