Summary
This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC). Incumbent provides lifeguard duties; is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area; assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.
Duties
- Performs all pool and/or waterfront lifeguard responsibilities, including supervising swimmers, monitoring water activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules, reporting hazards, and performing rescues.
- Observes conditions of the area to ensure safety, removing hazards like debris or glass.
- Performs water rescues, CPR, and emergency first aid, calling for medical assistance when needed.
- Conducts and documents chemical testing of pools, adjusting chemicals as directed.
- Documents marine life, water, and weather conditions.
- Administers aquatic assessment testing and certification per DoD, DON, and CNIC policies.
- Provides equipment orientations, checks IDs, and collects fees if applicable.
- Acts as liaison during emergencies between activity, security, medical, and aquatics staff.
- Performs cleaning and routine maintenance of facilities.
- Inspects safety equipment and facilities, reporting deficiencies.
- Maintains emergency equipment and enforces policies regarding aquatic facilities.
- Prepares incident reports and notifies management of emergencies.
- Handles hazardous materials safely.
Requirements
- Starting May 7, 2025, valid REAL ID or acceptable ID required for access.
- Must pass background and records checks.
- Must pass E-Verify; discrepancies must be resolved.
- NF-1: Obtain Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications within 30 days.
- NF-2: Upload certifications to qualify.

- Policies of MWR for aquatic facilities.
- Cash handling procedures.
- Hazard identification and patron assistance.
- Water safety instruction and enforcement.

- Pool chemical testing and adjustment.
- Rescue techniques and radio communication skills.
- Control of large groups and effective communication.
