Job summary

Eckerd Connects is hiring a Recreation Assistant at the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center to organize and direct trainees in leisure-time activities and leadership programs.

The role supports water safety and field trips, mentors students, and ensures compliance with DOL requirements. Flexible schedule including weekends/nights is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 1 year related experience working with youth.
• Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
• Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• The Recreation Assistant organizes and directs trainees in leisure-time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs.
• Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning.
• May drive students on trips/events when needed.
• Assists with Water Safety programming and CIS documentation where applicable.
• Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills.
• Ensures all programs comply with DOL requirements.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Position

Hourly Rate: $17.20

Duties and Responsibilities

• The Recreation Assistant organizes and directs trainees in leisure- time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs.
• Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning. At times, may drive the students on trips/events.
• The Recreation Assistant assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons} and CIS documentation- if applicable.
• May provide instructions to trainees in various recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, etc., and other creative activities, such as arts and crafts.
• Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills.
• Ensures that all programs comply with DOL requirements.

Qualifications

• Associates of Arts degree or one (1) year of related experience working with youth.
• Prefer experience in a recreation/non-vocational program.
• Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
• Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
• Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
