Eckerd Connects is hiring a Recreation Specialist for the Old Dominion Job Corps site in Monroe, VA. The role involves organizing leisure-time and leadership activities for trainees, supporting trips, and leading water safety programs as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred associates degree or related experience; flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and nights is required.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent; associates degree or 1 year related experience preferred.
• Prefer experience in a recreation/non-vocational program.
• Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
• Valid driver''s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
• Required to pass a drug screen per policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and directs trainees in leisure-time recreation and leadership programs.
• Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning; may drive students on trips/events.
• Assists with Water Safety programming and CIS documentation if applicable.
• Provides instruction in recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, and arts and crafts.
• Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to develop life skills.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Position

Hourly Rate: $17.20

On-Call up to 29 hours/week

Duties and Responsibilities

• The Recreation Specialist organizes and directs trainees in leisure- time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs.
• Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning. At times, may drive the students on trips/events.
• The Recreation Specialist assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons} and CIS documentation- if applicable.
• May provide instructions to trainees in various recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, etc., and other creative activities, such as arts and crafts.
• Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates of Arts degree or one (1) year of related experience working with youth.
• Prefer experience in a recreation/non-vocational program.
• Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
• Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
• Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
