Job summary

Eckerd Connects is seeking a Recreation Aide at the Laredo Job Corps Center to organize and supervise leisure-time activities for trainees, including leadership programs and group events.

You may assist with trips, water safety activities, and various clubs; weekend and evening hours may be required, with driving responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates of Arts degree or one year of related experience working with youth preferred.
  • Prefer experience in a recreation/non-vocational program.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • The Recreation Aide organizes and directs trainees in leisure-time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs.
  • Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning; may drive students on trips/events.
  • Assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons) and CIS documentation if applicable.
  • Provides instructions to trainees in recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, arts and crafts.
  • Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Position
Hourly range: 17.20
