Job summary

Trinity Services, Inc. in Orland Park, IL is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist to assist individuals experiencing mental health crises.

The RSS uses lived experience to provide peer-based support, helps develop personalized recovery plans, and models effective self-care. You will collaborate with the care team, engage with community resources, and participate in trainings to enhance peer-support practices.

Qualifications

• Lived experience as a consumer of mental health or substance use services.
• GED or high school diploma required; additional education a plus.
• CRSS certification or willingness to obtain; WRAP certification or willingness to complete training.
• Valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance.
• Ability to pass all pre-employment background checks.
• Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals is a plus.
• Teaching experience and/or facilitating peer groups is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate peer support to individuals in mental health crisis.
• Respond to crisis calls with partner and work as a team.
• Occasionally work alongside law enforcement and other community agencies.
• Collaborate with individuals to develop a personalized recovery plan.
• Teach and model problem-solving, coping strategies, and reducing negative self-talk.
• Assist participants in identifying strengths, goals, wellness objectives, and barriers.
• Be a recovery role model with coping techniques and self-care practices.
• Participate in trainings, seminars, and meetings to improve peer support.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess high-risk indicators.
• Conduct outreach and connect participants to community resources.
• Provide follow-up to ensure continuity of care and engagement.
• Complete all necessary documentation.
