Job summary

Denton MHMR is seeking a Substance Use Services Peer Support Specialist under the Program Manager to provide peer recovery coaching, outreach, navigation, and support across clinical and community settings. This role leverages lived experience to help individuals access services, sustain recovery, and engage with care teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Self-identify as a person in recovery with stability.
• Valid driver's license and auto insurance.
• Complete CORE Grant and outreach training within 30 days.
• Achieve Peer Recovery Certification within 120 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) groups and provide one-on-one peer recovery coaching.
• Support individuals during detox discharge, treatment entry, or sober living placement.
• Use lived experience to promote hope, engagement, and sustained recovery.
• Conduct outreach in non-traditional settings and community events.
• Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone and recovery resources.
• Provide field-based engagement and crisis support with licensed staff.
• Help individuals access transportation, appointments, housing, and basic needs.
• Accompany individuals to appointments to support engagement and follow-through.
• Bridge clinical services, community partners, and individuals receiving services.
• Support recovery goals and wellness planning with education on available supports.
• Connect individuals to digital mental wellness tools as part of recovery planning.
• Maintain productivity and complete documentation within two business days.
• Ensure compliance with HHSC, Medicaid, and grant-related requirements.
• Model trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, harm reduction principles in all interactions.
• Participate in crisis response and safety debriefings as needed.
• Engage in Zero Suicide initiatives and continuous service improvement.
