Job summary

Burrell Behavioral Health is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist/Recovery Coach in St. Louis, MO. The role uses lived experience to support individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges, guiding recovery goals and linking to local resources.

You’ll lead educational groups, help create individualized recovery plans, and collaborate with care teams to promote resilience and hopeful outcomes. A strong emphasis on empathy and outreach defines the position.

Qualifications

• Must self-identify as a present or former client of mental health or substance use services, or be in recovery.
• Completion of a state-approved Peer Specialist training program.
• Missouri applicants: must complete the mopeerspecialist.com application and may attend a 5-day basic training and pass the Missouri certification exam within 6 months.
• Must pass a standardized certification exam (if required).
• Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in building recovery and resilience skills
• Develops and assists with individualized treatment and recovery plans
• Share lived experiences of recovery to inspire hope and change
• Promote coping strategies and connect clients to community supports
• Facilitate educational groups and peer support activities
• Assist clients with scheduling treatments and transportation when needed
• Engage with referral sources, guardians, and care teams
• Participate in staffings to ensure continuity of care
• Make referrals for services not offered within the setting
• Document services per state and CARF standards
• Provide crisis intervention when necessary
• Attend professional development training (minimum 36 hours every 2 years)
