General Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator of Volunteers, the Receptionist uses specified procedures to operate a console telephone switchboard; practices customer service when greeting and providing direction to visitors and residents after ascertaining their needs, and performs all duties as stated below.

High School Diploma Or Equivalent Experience Preferred.
Work Experience
Experience Working With Public Preferred.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities
- Answers telephones and makes proper connections to persons requested, refer calls, takes messages, operates PAS (Public Address System).
- Greets visitors and residents. Answers questions and gives general information as appropriate. Distributes staff paychecks on off hours of scheduling department.
- Responsible for announcing fire alarms and informing entire facility of location when alarm is sounded, and responsible for notifying security and appropriate personnel of disasters, bomb threats, etc.
- Sorts all incoming facility mail and distributes to the proper department. Uses discretion when sorting resident’s mail to determine if resident is capable of receiving/handling mail. Verifies information regarding residents with social work department. Forwards mail to discharged residents or family members.
- Responsible for calling the various area hospitals each morning to request the status of residents who have been transferred out to a hospital and communicates this information to the Business Office.
- Monitors general appearance of reception area and lobby, i.e., watering plants, straightening tables, etc., to maintain neat and orderly appearance.
- Assists departments with stuffing and mailing of various material, as needed.
- Supervises sitting area and notifies Nursing staff / Social Services.
Special Employment Requirements
- Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with associates and general public.
- Working knowledge of personal computer preferred.
- Individual must be punctual, thorough, dependable and organized.
