GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the receiving function within the distribution center, including verifying and processing incoming shipments, maintaining accurate inventory records, resolving discrepancies with vendors and purchasing, and directing the daily workflow of receiving associates to ensure merchandise is handled efficiently, accurately, and safely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process the receipt of incoming shipments daily.
- Compare packing lists, bills of lading, and vendor invoices against purchase orders to verify that merchandise received matches what was ordered and is free of damage or defect.
- Enter and maintain accurate receiving and inventory records in the warehouse management system.
- Identify, separate, label, and palletize merchandise, and direct replenishment of pick locations based on inventory reports and requests.
- Identify and communicate damages, shortages, overages, or vendor compliance issues, and coordinate resolution with appropriate departments.
- Assist in the processing and documenting of returns to vendors, including required paperwork.
- Operate a forklift or other material handling equipment to load and unload merchandise as needed.
- Ensure the receiving area, including the dock and staging areas, is organized, clean, and safe.
- Meet safety, productivity, and quality standards, and help ensure the receiving team does the same.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, such as kitting, boxing, cycle-count inventory, and stock inspection.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience in a warehouse receiving role required; prior lead, coordinator, or similar experience preferred.
- Experience with inventory/cycle counting and warehouse management systems (WMS) a plus.
- Sufficient literacy to read and understand item code labels, packing lists, purchase orders, and invoices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with vendors, purchasing, and warehouse staff.
- Forklift experience is required. Certification is a plus. We will train.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy is required to be successful in this position.
- Reliable attendance is required to be successful in this position.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with inventory or warehouse management software.
- Solid basic math skills are necessary for daily tasks and year-end inventory, including fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to organize workflow, prioritize tasks, and coordinate the work of others in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in and promote a team environment.
- Work performed in a warehouse-type facility with temperatures subject to normal environmental conditions.
- Work surfaces are concrete. Personnel will stand while performing much of their respective job functions.
- Hard-working and strong work ethic.
- Overtime may be required, including some occasional weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Continuous (6 to 8 hours) standing and repetitive motions, including bending, squatting, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
- Required to repetitively lift from 5 to 50 lbs. including reaching above shoulder level, at and below waist level depending on the job.
- Hand dexterity and strength to include simple grasping, power grasping, and fine motor skill manipulation.
- Safety equipment provided based on the specific job.
