Actalent in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Rear Closures D&R Engineer to develop and release technical requirements for moving rear closures such as liftgates, tailgates, cargo doors, and swing gates. The role focuses on defining performance criteria and ensuring robust system integration of sheet metal structures, hinges, latches, and mechanisms.

You will create DVPR, technical requirements, FMA, and strategy documents, work with customers, and use CATIA/3DX and Teamcenter Engineering to support

Responsibilities

• Develop and release technical requirements and strategies for rear closures (liftgates, tailgates, doors).
• Act as a core engineering SME for rear closures, guiding design, performance and integration.
• Define engineering requirements aligned with customer performance expectations.
• Create and maintain DVPR, technical requirements, FMA, and strategy documents.
• Lead design and development of sheet metal structures, hinges, latches, mechanisms, and system integration.
• Develop specifications and documentation from scratch using physics-based approaches and use cases.
• Perform product engineering from concept to launch ensuring durability, functionality, and quality targets.
• Use CATIA/3DX to open, measure, and section parts and assemblies; create basic 3D shapes.
• Conduct competitive benchmarking for mass, size, and features and compare with existing designs.
• Gather VOC data to translate customer needs into measurable technical requirements.
• Apply mechanical principles to analyze mechanisms and create Free Body Diagrams.
• Support Design for Manufacturing and system engineering disciplines to solve issues in rear closure systems.
• Contribute to solving model quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate on DFMEA, dimensional variation analysis, and quality robustness tools.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations using Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
• Participate in engineering reviews, design validations, and cross-functional meetings.
• Support continuous improvement through benchmarking and future technology trends.
